Il 30 maggio 2007 Rihanna pubblica  Good Girl Gone Bad, Umbrella è il brano candidato per il lancio del nuovo album.

Rihanna duetta con JAY-Z è sicuramente uno dei più grandi successi del decennio, Umbrella si assesta alla numero uno per ben 10 settimane in UK e raggiunge la vetta in 13 paesi, in italia la sfiora posizionandosi al secondo posto.

Chris Applebaum è il regista del videoclip, per la prima volta Rihanna si mette a nudo, il suo fisico stauario è ricoperto da una vernice argentata che ne esalta ancor di più le forme.

Rihanna con Umbrella vince Best Video agli MTV Music Awards, e da il via a una serie di cover intepretate da OneRepublic,  i Vanilla Sky, The Baseballs, Mike Shinoda e Taylor Swift.
