Ambientato nelle strade dell'Irlanda del Nord negli anni '80, "Every Breaking Wave" è costruito su due temi: l'abbandono che provoca una forte emozione e l'incertezza di una relazione seppur romantica.

Il video infatti segue le vicende di due teenagers che si innamorano nonostante gi scontri e le violenze. A far da colonna sonora i brani "Every Breaking Wave" e "The Troubles", contenuti nell'ultimo album degli "Songs of Innocence".
