John Legend si è aggiudicato il premio per la Best Original Song in Motion Picture (ovvero la miglior canzone originale)  per "Glory", composta per la colonna sonora di "Selma", film che racconta la lotta di Martin Luther King

In gara per vincere l'ambita statuetta ai Golden Globes 2015 (che solitamente anticipano quanto avverrà agli Oscar) c'erano anche "Yellow Flicker Beat" di (da "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I"), "Big Eyes" di (dall'omonimo film di Tim Burton), "Mercy Is" di e Lenny K (da "Noah"), "Opportunity" di Sia (da "Annie").
